Municipalities hold joint election prayer

As part of the programme, both municipalities handed over blankets and food parcels to elderly citizens

uThukela District Municipality, together with Alfred Duma Local Municipality, held a prayer session with various denominations at the eNdingeni Community Hall in Matiwane yesterday (May 27).

The gathering involved multiple stakeholders and aimed to ensure transparent, peaceful, fair and free elections.

The 2024 elections, which will pave the way for the seventh democratic administration, will be held tomorrow (May 29).

Both mayors, Zama Sibisi (Alfred Duma) and Inkosi NB Shabalala (uThukela), shared the same sentiments that these elections are of the utmost importance and that citizens should use this chance to elect the government they want.

“Churches are neglected and they survive on donations and handouts, which is a disgrace when you look at the crucial role they play within the community. As churches, this is the time for you to vote for the government that will take your needs to heart and restore the dignity you deserve,” said Sibisi.

On the other hand, Mayor Shabalala stressed concerns over the high unemployment rate all over the country and reminded citizens of the time when the youth had job opportunities straight from school. “This is the time to look back and compare, and decide which government is the best for the future of this country. Vote as such,” said Shabalala.
