Suspected armed robber caught with R14K worth of stolen items

The suspect was positively identified by the victim and linked to the case of armed robbery.

A man was arrested and stolen goods valued at R14 000 were recovered when law enforcement followed up on information following an armed robbery in Newcastle’s upper CBD last month.

Imran Ghafoor, of Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team, said he and his team were tipped off last Thursday that the two men involved in the April 8 robbery had been involved in a robbery in Amiel Park.

The team, accompanied by members of Vispol, swooped at about 1pm. One suspect was apprehended and the stolen goods were recovered and returned to the owner.

The weapon used in the robbery was also recovered and booked into SAP 13.

“Well done to all involved; excellent work,” Ghafoor said.
