Purr- fect day out at PAWS market Day

People travelled from far and wide to support the PAWS Market Day held at the Majuba Lodge on Saturday (March 30)

“We were all worried and prayed as it started to rain. Our prayers were heard,” exclaimed an excited but busy Alet Oberholzer, whose hands were full rushing about to make sure everything was in working order.

The market day served a s a fundraiser for PAWS, a non profit set up to serve the animals and the families who care for them in Newcastle.

About three years ago, Alet launched the anti-fireworks project, which aims at changing the bylaws pertaining to the use of fireworks in residential areas. This project gave rise to the PAWS organisation with the motto “We can’t change the world but we can change a family’s or animal’s life,” the organisation seeks to assist in the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of animals.

“We were all worried and prayed as it started to rain. Our prayers were heard,” exclaimed an excited but busy Alet Oberholzer, whose hands were full rushing about to make sure everything was in working order.

Many stalls were set up boasting some of the best food and handmade arts and crafts residents had to offer.

The kids had a great time throughout the day enjoying activities including finger painting, a jumping castle, and plenty of snacks from the various booths set up to sell toys, homemade crafts, food, and other items.

Even the most ‘stern-looking’ of folk were seen tapping their feet to the upbeat tunes of musician Jaco Strydom, who travelled a great distance to keep everyone in a cheerful mood.

Alet expressed her gratitude to all of the supporters and the Newcastle Angels.

“Thanks to the entire PAWS team, Jaco Strydom who came from Randburg to sing at our market day, Majuba Lodge for allowing us to use their premises, all those who had stalls at the market day and all those who came to support and made the event a success, “she said

“The market day was a huge success and the funds raised will be used to help less fortunate families who cannot afford vet care, animal food and medicine,” she continued

Lastly, she thanked the Newcastle community who continue to support PAWS. “I hope to have a long journey with all of you to help our fur-kids.”
