Angry workers close Public Safety gates

The strike continued today

Employees at Alfred Duma Local Municipality closed the gates yesterday (April 9), demanding answers from Human Resources.

The ‘Job Creation Programme’ staff forced everything to a standstill, saying they are being undermined by management.

According to one of the employees, who opted to remain anonymous, they have been temporarily employed for more than two years; some for one year.

“We were told there were no permanent vacancies and we understood. However, we noticed that new people have been hired from outside and they are permanent, which makes us wonder how that happens.”

He said that when two new employees were hired, the permanent vacancies were not advertised.

“We are not on strike, but only asking for the manager to come and address us so that we get clarity,” said the concerned employee.
