Cancer survivor keeps the momentum going at Shavathon

Ramdeyal, who organized an amazing Cuppa for CANSA in August, continued the trend with a Shavathon event at Blackrock Casino.

Cancer survivor, Felicity Ramdeyal, is committed to doing everything she can to ensure that Newcastle residents diagnosed with the disease don’t go through it alone.

Ramdeyal, who hosted an inspirational Cuppa for CANSA in August, kept the momentum going with a Shavathon event at Blackrock Casino on Saturday, March 16.

While Ramdeyal didn’t get the numbers she was hoping for in terms of foot traffic, she expressed gratitude to the many people who were of the event and stopped by just to make a donation.

“I encourage residents to support events such as these. It is especially important for cancer patients who don’t have a strong support system at home,” said Ramdeyal, pointing out that besides the medical side, cancer takes an emotional toll as well. CANSA marketed the annual event as an opportunity to be ‘colourfully kind’.

The act of shaving or colouring ones hair at a Shavathon shows solidarity with cancer patients who often lose their hair after receiving chemotherapy.
