Spreading crime awareness among learners

Various issues were tackled

The Mthombeni Foundation, in partnership with the ‘Building Confidence with Care’ Foundation, held a crime awareness programme at Sakhelwe High School on February 28.

Together with Correctional Services, this programme included talks about drugs, substance abuse, pregnancy, gang fights, bullying and the importance of education.

The aim of these programmes is to build a safe environment for both learners and teachers in order to build a healthy and safe environment for education to continue.

“We want everyone coming to school to feel safe, including the teachers, because their safety is important too. What we found in possession of learners was ‘weed’ (dagga) and cigarettes. We are hopeful that these programmes will result in change at schools, in order to have a better outcome for future generations,” said Mzi from the Mthombeni Foundation.
