IFP rallies up Newcastle support ahead of manifesto launch

Newcastle was painted red, black and white this past weekend as the IFP leadership, led by IFP KZN Premier candidate, Thami Ntuli, descended upon Newcastle on the campaign trail ahead of the party’s manifesto launch in Durban on March 10.

To drum up support for the IFP in KwaZulu-Natal province leading up to the May 29 elections, the party held a rally in Osizweni’s ward 11 – a ward the IFP recently won in a highly contested by-election.

“Our vision is for a just, prosperous and moral society whose citizens engage with each other based on Ubuntu,” stated Ntuli

Ntuli was speaking at the IFP a gala dinner held at the Pines Wedding and Conference Centre on Friday night (March 1).

In attendance at the gala were IFP Deputy President M. Buthelezi and the local IFP leadership including Amajuba District municipality mayor Ndabuko Zulu, deputy mayor Lihle Mthembu, Speaker of Council in the district, Sphamandla Zulu, and the Speaker of the Newcastle Council, Thengi Zulu.

Ntuli outlined his vision for a just society and his hopes for Newcastle in particular.

“A just society is one that has successfully addressed the challenges of the past which include limited access to basic services, sustainable jobs, quality education, adequate healthcare and security,” he explained.

Ntuli expressed his optimism that Newcastle will grow to take its position as the economic hub considering its unique position as the middle point between Durban and Johannesburg.

“The time has come for Newcastle to take its place as an economic leader. The town has tremendous potential but the lack of vision from the current administration has failed the people of this region,” he stated.

Firing direct shots at the ANC, Ntuli, spoke on the past 15 years which he said have been marred by corruption which the ANC itself has referred to as ‘15 years of stagnation’ or ‘wasted years’ under their former president.

Hinting out at former President Zuma and the newly formed MK party, Ntuli said ‘You cannot after five years keep on giving that person your vote who keeps on robbing you.’

IFP Deputy President Mzamo Buthelezi reminded the public of challenges faced by South Africans including load shedding, unemployment, crime, GBV and corruption, pleading with the public to cast their vote for the ‘party of goodwill’

“The IFP will deliver us into the future we all hope for or we choose to continue to support the sinking ship that is the ANC and we all die like fools, “he concluded.
