Residents urged to prepare for water interruptions tomorrow

A planned shutdown by Uthukela Water of the Ntshingwayo main raw water pipeline at the Ngagane Water Purification will interrupt the water supply to most parts of the Newcastle area tomorrow, February 27.

The purpose of the shutdown is to replace an inlet isolation valve on the main incoming Ntshingwayo raw water pipeline at the Ngagane WPP, the municipality said in a statement.

Raw water will still be provided to the purification plant via the second Ntshingwayo pipeline, the Ngagane River pump station and the Buffalo River pipeline.

The estimated duration of the shutdown is around eight hours and will affect the following areas:

The above areas will be affected with low pressure and/ or no water.

“We, therefore, urge our residents to exercise patience while uThukela Water Technical Team will be replacing the inlet isolation valve. “
