ATKV enables food security in communities

Inkululeko Children’s Home received a Seed 2 Harvest starter pack to allow them to start their own organic garden

Shaun Cairns from Seed 2 Harvest, together with ATKV district manager Coenraad van Rensburg, visited Inkululeko Children’s Home to introduce the concept of one food garden per household.
Shaun addressed a few local people who attended the course and explained how to start your own organic garden, how to care for it, how to sustain it and how to build food security for families.
Seed 2 Harvest is an organisation that brings food to people, one garden at a time. They want to establish one household with one food garden in as many communities as possible. They spread awareness of good health, nutrition and food security to people from all walks of life.
The ATKV realised during Covid-19 that there was a huge demand in communities for food. In 2021, they heard about Seed 2 Harvest and after some research, they saw the change that the organisation brought to communities. Seed 2 Harvest CEO Shaun Cairns and ATKV collaborated by promoting organic gardens throughout the country. These gardens can sustain schools, churches, community centres and households for either their own use or to create an income. They use heirloom seeds that can be re-used to plant again in the next season. All products that are introduced to communities are organic and have no chemical effects on either the plants or human beings.
