Mass police initiative delivers successful outcome

The operation was held because of the amount of complaints the SAPS have received

On Saturday morning a cordon and search was held by the Vryheid SAPS together with various community institutions. The operation was held because of the amount of complaints the SAPS have received in this particular area, and information from various sources confirmed that a lot of suspects from Vryheid and surround area were hiding in the area. After months of preparation the operation was executed and was a success. This is the first operation of its kind in the Vryheid area where an entire area has been cordoned off and both the community and SAPS members have worked together to achieve the same goal.

Vryheid Station Commander Colonel Potgieter would like to especially thank Mr Rich Verster and Warrant Officer MPA Nichols, who invested many hours to assist the SAPS with drawing up this plan and implementing it successfully. Mr Verster even went so far as to visit the site to ensure that all grounds were covered. Without the assistance and dedication of these two people, and various other community members this operation would not have been a success.

The police managed to succeed in the following:

Drunken driving,

Possession of ammunition,

Drug related cases.

Suspects on Assault GBH, crimen injuria and protection order were arrested, and stolen stock was recovered.

A Shebeen was also closed and the liquor confiscated.

In addition Colonel Potgieter would like to thank the following for the help in making the operation successful:

Pro 5 Security

K9 Security

Fidelity

ADT Security

911 Control room for the use of their facilities

CPF

UDS

Kwazulu Private Ambulance Services

AfriForum

Department of Home Affairs

And all the individual community members and farmers (who are too many to mention).
