Newcastle lass set to snatch Mrs SA’s title

Local beauty Nobentungwa Zandile Mathebula is set to light up the Mrs. SA stage after making it into the semi-finals of the prestigious competition.

Nobentungwa (36), a senior education specialist with a lifelong passion for modelling, entered the competition by chance after an advertisement for the pageant popped up while scrolling through Instagram.

“I kept telling myself for years to enter and I never did. Seeing the content in the Mrs SA’s Instagram account reawakened a dream that had been dimmed for years,” she recalled

Nobentungwa said that her hometown of Madadeni groomed her. The Sabela High School alumni believes that modelling from a very young age trained her for what lies ahead. She holds fond memories of her childhood, from Siphesethu Preschool to Sabela High School, where she earned the title of ‘Ms Sabela Junior High.’

After high school, the high achiever embarked on her studies in education attributing her career choice to her strong passion for grooming children to greatness. Throughout the years though, her love of pageantry grew.

Even though this dynamic lady oozes confidence, she was caught by surprise when she was chosen to progress to the semi-finals after attending the national public casting call in Roodepoort, Gauteng on February 2.

“I was overwhelmed when my name was called out and I knew right there and then, I was where I needed to be,” she says.

As a Master in Education student, Nobentungwa has her hands full. She has had to participate in workshops and development events at the Dallmayr Mrs South Africa semi-finalist conference on February 3 and 4. She also has a long road of photo shoots, media interviews, fitness challenges, sponsored events and community projects to tackle, leading up to the announcement of the finalists in July.

This strenuous programme does not faze her because of she feels called to embark on this new journey.

“I entered Mrs South Africa because I wanted to inspire both the young and old women to never give up on their dreams and to never dim their light,” she remarked

To all the local youngsters in Newcastle who look up to her and wish to achieve greatness, she had this message:

“Constantly strive for your dreams. A dream delayed is not a dream denied.”
