Sewer woes haunt Ezakheni for months

The leaks date as far back as October last year

Residents of Intshe Street in Ezakheni E-Section are fed up about a sewer leak that has been leaking since December.

The leak affects about five houses in the same street.

Homes are being damaged and the walls are starting to crack because of the moisture caused by the sewer water, which has created a veritable swamp in their yards.

For people to reach their front door, they have to put down bricks to step on.

According to concerned resident Mr Phungula, uThukela workers came out on two occasions but never fixed the leak.

“At first, they told us there is nothing they can do, since the pipes are smaller and they need to replace them. When they came the second time, they told us they would come with a TLB.

“We are appealing to uThukela management to please help us. We did not enjoy our Christmas holidays and by the look of things, we are still being neglected.”

The same situation can be seen in Thandanani Road, Ezakheni D-Section, at houses 144, 145 and 146. Residents say they have been enduring a sewer leak from October.

“I used to look after children, but parents have stopped bringing their kids because the place is dangerous to their health. We have tried on numerous occasions to get uThukela to fix the leak, but it seems as if they are not interested at all. I call them often, and even the ward councillor has tried without any success,” said a concerned resident.

uThukela were contacted for comment, but had not responded at the time of publishing.
