Dams overflow but taps leave community ‘high and dry’

In the meantime, the three dams surrounding Vryheid are full to the brim

It was a trying two weeks for Vryheid, as residents were ‘taunted’ by ongoing water outages. The municipality updated the community on their Facebook page, saying that burst pipes and load-shedding prevented the reservoir from filling up sufficiently to adhere to the town’s demand. Several areas in town were left with dry taps for days while municipal workers attended to burst pipe after burst pipe. In the meantime, the three dams surrounding Vryheid are full to the brim, with the following percentages:

Bloemveld Dam – +/-98%

Klipfontein Dam (main source of water supply to town) – 100.3%

Grootgewacht Dam – 100%
