Municipality addresses community following ward councillor resignation

Speaker of Council Thengi Zulu addressed service delivery in the ward while also attempting to assuage residents' anxieties and speculations in the wake of ANC ward Councillor, MP Mkhwanazi's, resignation.

The resignation of the ward 23 Councillor prompted the Newcastle Municipality, led by Speaker of Council Thengi Zulu to hold a public meeting in Madadeni, Section Three on January 14.

Zulu assured the residents that regardless of Mkhwanazi’s resignation all their concerns regarding service delivery in the area ‘would be promptly and thoroughly attended to as resolving these issues reflects the municipality’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all residents in the ward’.

“The Newcastle Municipality acknowledges the importance of community input in identifying and prioritizing service delivery challenges,” he stated.

To defuse tensions in the ward, he also promised that the community would be informed regularly about the ward’s progress in resolving these problems.

Zulu concluded by restating the support of the municipality, saying: “We at Newcastle Municipality appreciate the residents’ cooperation and collaboration in tackling service delivery challenges and are optimistic that, with combined efforts, positive changes can be realised for the benefit of all residents in Ward 23.”
