Learner defies the odds to grab top spot in the district

Bonukwenza Thandolwethu Mtshali led the pack to be placed sixth in the province and overall first in the Amajuba District in the 2023 matric exams.

The learner, who matriculated from Kadwa Secondary, a farm school l in Ballengeigh, defied the challenges of limited resources and school conditions to achieve top results.

Bonukwenza notched up seven distinctions, obtaining a 100 per cent pass in maths and physical science, and was placed in the top ten in mathematics and physics in the province.

Kadwa Secondary School principal and his mathematics teacher, Miss P.N. Ndlovu, could not hide her excitement as she basked in the glory Bonukwenza had brought the school.

“I was ecstatic and overwhelmed upon hearing of his outstanding results. As a farm school, we have many issues, such as the lack of basic amenities like laboratories, the inaccessibility of our road, especially after heavy rain, and societal problems such as drug abuse, which make it impossible to give quality education,” she said.

She said Bonukwenza ‘has made history at our school – setting extremely high goals for the class of 2024, and has made all of our stakeholders extremely proud.”

He intends to pursue studies in the medical field.

Congratulations also go to Manqoba Sibusiso Dlala from Isikhalusezwe High School and Njabulo Celokuhle Mbatha from Bethamoya High School who came in second and third position in the Amajuba District.
