New political party engages with community after floods

Places visited included the Illing Road taxi rank and the Indoor Sports Complex

Today (January 11), the uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party engaged with community members who were affected by the flood disaster.

The newly-formed political party started at the Illing Road taxi rank, where they engaged with taxi drivers and hawkers who were severely affected by the flooding.

They then processed to the Indoor Sports Complex, where they spoke with community members who have been placed there after they lost everything in the floods.

Outlining the purpose of today’s activities, Nathi Mthethwa said that as the MK, they believe that in order to find a solution, all the affected stakeholders should be given a platform to provide input.

“This flooding has been happening over the past years. The ANC failed to fix it and now the current administration, led by the IFP, is also failing to deal with the problem. As the MK, we wanted the community to tell us what they think could be the solution.”

Mthethwa said they have noticed a trend by those in power of making decisions without consulting with the affected people on the ground.

“After we have collected all the information, we will also engage with the municipality and demand answers. We want them to include the residents’ input in their planning,” concluded Mthethwa.
