Water back as damage at pump station is repaired

Community organisations supported uThukela to help solve the problem

The water shortage that has plagued residents since Thursday (January 4) is now over, after a tree fell on the Ladysmith pump station.

Water has started to flow from residents’ taps once again.

According to uThukela, repairs were conducted with the help of several institutions (Northern KZN Chamber of Business, Sumitomo Rubber SA and Alfred Duma Local Municipality) to replace a damaged transformer.

The installation work was carried out yesterday (January 6) with the assistance of the Alfred Duma Electrical Department. Mechanical pump installation work was also completed. All going well with the installation, the aim was to start filling up reservoirs from Saturday night. Pumping started in the early hours of this morning (January 7).

With bulk water levels still being low, uThukela advises the community to use water sparingly and continue to store in containers if possible.
