Temple battles thieves and now a putrid leak

Temple in Browning Street has had to endure a severe sewer leak on the premises for the past two weeks.

As well as having to contend with the theft of copper piping and religious statues (subsequently recovered), the Dundee Hindu Temple in Browning Street has had to endure a severe sewer leak on the premises for the past two weeks.
Krish Kallie said the leak seeped into the temple yard and down to the parking lot.
“All prayer meetings have now been postponed due to this.
“The caretaker, Betty Moodley, is a pensioner and she cannot use her toilet.
“If she flushes, the water comes out the bowl and onto the floor. Her bathroom is infested with maggots from the drain.”

A team from Umzinyathi District Municipality arrived on Saturday to clear the blockage, which emanates from an open field behind the temple premises.

“They attempted to clear the mainline.
“However, it appears as if a large tree (the roots thereof) is blocking the main pipe, so more work will have to be done to seek a more permanent solution.”
