Newcastle municipality tackles Montague Street pothole plague

The Newcastle Municipality has spent the past two weeks prioritising service delivery around town, making residents and motorists feel a little safer ahead of the festive season.

Much-maligned Montague Street, notorious for being one of the most badly potholed roads within the Newcastle Central Business District, has finally received the attention it needs.

The Newcastle Municipality, in their active war against potholes throughout the town, has restored 80% of this road, giving motorists some relief.

In the run-up to the rainy season, the Newcastle municipality has stepped up its work to improve the town’s infrastructure by focusing on the following vital preparations:

  • Verge clearing and catch pits to prevent water build-up and ensure efficient storm-water drainage during the rainy season.
  • Road maintenance: a commitment to improve road safety across Newcastle is of central importance.

“Whenever the roads are wet, always remember, to be cautious and drive carefully. Together, we can ensure a safe and manageable upcoming rainy season for all residents,” the municipality said in a statement.
