Red blots out blue at Dundee Golf Club’s Ryder Cup day

The Ryder Cup is named after the English businessman Samuel Ryder, who sponsored the trophy.

Dundee Golf Club’s version of the Ryder Cup has proved so popular among players that it is to be declared an annual event.
A total of 40 players – 20 per side – teed off in steaming-hot conditions on Saturday when temperatures rose to 37 degrees.
The blue team was captained by Jeff Schar, while Louis Albertse headed the red team.
27 holes were played and it was a close encounter in all three formats: better-ball, Stableford medal and IPS.
However, it was the red team that prevailed. The ‘real’ Ryder Cup was established in 1927 and is a biennial men’s golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States.
The competition is contested every two years, with the venue alternating between courses in the United States and Europe.
The Ryder Cup is named after the English businessman, Samuel Ryder, who donated the trophy.
The local members and committee would like to send their condolences to the Mapanga family on the loss of Churchhill, who was a member of Dundee Country Club for many years.
