Have your say on proposed Newcastle Coal Mine

Mining company Minetek Resources, is close to submitting their application for mining rights in the western region of Newcastle, just outside of town.

The move by mining company Minetek Resources has sparked debate around the community on what it will mean for the town should the mining application be successful.

According to reports, mining rights have been applied for open pit mining and future underground mining of coal over various farms Craig , Glen Ashton, Harwarden and Dumblane farms.

Suburban areas, Lennoxton, Amiel Park, Aviary Hill and Hutten Heights could be directly impacted due to their near proximity to the planned mining site.

The public is encouraged to share their opinions because the public comment period on the mine ends on Friday, November 17.

The mining company held their last EIA-Phase meeting last Saturday and the community is urged to provide feedback.
