Humanitarian gesture from Al-Imdaad saves waterless Glencoe

Glencoe's water woes caused the town's taps to run dry for more than five days last week.

Glencoe’s water woes saw the town’s taps run dry for over five days last week after two pumps that feed the area failed.
The breakdown left only two smaller pumps working and this was not enough to supply water throughout Glencoe.
Ward 7 Councillor Saleem Abdool said the breakdown appeared to be on uThukela Water’s side, which is the bulk water supplier to the Umzinyathi District.
“I completely understand the utter frustration of residents who have dealt with so many water outages, among so many other issues.

“Umzinyathi District Municipality has very limited tankers available to bring water to residents,” Abdool said.

That’s when he called in humanitarian group the Al-Imdaad Foundation to help on Saturday and on other days.
“Umzinyathi sent a water tanker last Monday and the distribution was assisted by ward committee members, with Jacque Greyvenstein co-ordinating the delivery. In the meantime, the repairs to the pumps have been completed.”
Abdool and happy residents praised the foundation for their assistance in supplying water to the community of Glencoe.
