Dundee Rotary Club plants citrus trees to help improve the environment

Details of the care of these trees will additionally be made available.

As the Rotary Club of Dundee celebrates 70 years of service to the community this year, various service projects and events are in the planning. To kick off, 40 citrus trees will be planted in the next few weeks.
“The selection of citrus trees is twofold, ie in the provision of delicious nutritious fruit and also to assist ensuring that the air we breathe is oxygen enriched and carbon dioxide levels reduced.

“These trees are evergreen, thrive in our area and can live roughly 50 years,” said Dundee Rotary president Bev Garner.
Rotary works closely with many other public beneficiary organisations, institutions, schools and the like all over Endumeni, and these centres will be provided with trees and, if necessary, bone meal, compost and manure to ensure they establish themselves well.

Should funds become available, the dream would be to have 70 (or more) trees planted over the next year.
“The gimmicky annual R2 Project will take place on November 4 in the exhibition court of Dundee Boulevard. Rotary looks forward to providing food and stationery to the SPCA and four other centres of care (the elderly and children). Lots of food and stationery, with your help,” Bev said.
