Water shutdown planned by uThukela

Certain areas will be without water

uThukela would like to inform the community of Alfred Duma Local Municipality that they will be shutting off the water supply from 18:00 today (September 22) and turning it back on tomorrow morning at 06:00,

“We have reached the time of year when the Klip River dries up due to lack of sufficient rains in the catchment area. The Klip River supplies 40% of the daily raw water supply to the Ladysmith Water Treatment Works.

“We are in communication with Eskom to be exempted from load-shedding.

“Bulk water levels will drop, constituting water supply interruptions. The municipality has therefore planned to reduce pumping volumes from the Ladysmith purification plant and interrupt water supply to the Golf Reservoir. This will help to build up water levels for efficient bulk water supply,” said uThukela’s communication manager.

The following areas are likely to be negatively affected: Golf Course, Observation Hill, Egerton, Mkhamba Gardens, Steadville, Limit Hill, Model Kloof, Danskraal Industrial, and St Chad’s.
