Pensioners lose all in devastating house fire

An elderly couple in Osizweni is pleading for assistance after a fire destroyed their home.

Mr and Mrs Mngomezulu have lived in Osizweni for years, proudly raising their children and were now guardians of their grandchildren who live with them.

The pensioners are now left having to start all over again at their advanced age after a devastating fire their home was gutted by a fire in August 19.

Sphiwe Mngomezulu, the couples son reached out to the Newcastle Advertiser to ask for assistance for his elderly parents.

The first light of day revealed the devastation caused by the fire.

“Everything in the house had burnt to ashes, including their furniture, clothes, memorabilia, important documents, and so on. Fortunately, the structure survived, but the windows and other components were destroyed,” explains Sphiwe.

In tears, a distraught Mrs Mngomezulu (74) says, “Everything I have worked for over so many years is gone,” she says.

Sphiwe is pleading with the community for any assistance to his parents as they begin rebuilding their lives.
