Drive-by shooting claims two lives

The two deceased, as well as a 26-year-old woman and a five-year-old girl were travelling in a vehicle at the time

Taxi owner Bonisani Ngcobo and passenger Cebisani Zungu were shot dead in a drive-by shooting in the Mondlo area on Tuesday last week. The two deceased, as well as a 26-year-old woman and a five-year-old girl were travelling in a vehicle at the time. The woman and little girl ducked down when another vehicle (with no number plates) drove past and the occupants fired several shots. Ngcobo was shot in the head and died at the scene. Zungu was hit in the chest and sadly died later at a clinic. The young woman and child were also injured and taken to hospital. Ngcobo lived in Nquthu, while Zungu was from Nongoma. It is alleged that the suspects followed the victims and once they stopped to pick someone up, the gunmen overtook and opened fire. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage, but it may be connected to taxi violence.
