Mayor hands over borehole

The water has been tested and was found to be fit for consumption

uThukela District Mayor Inkosi NB Shabalala brought some hope to the residents of the Mbangeni area after he handed over a production borehole in Ward 30 under Alfred Duma Local Municipality today (August 24).

According to the mayor, the main reason they visited the area was because of Ward Cllr Madondo, who had been complaining about lack of water in his ward. “Cllr Madondo came to us to request that he must be supplied with water through tankers. The problem we are now faced with is that we do not have enough water tankers, as most are broken down. We then had to make a decision, so we went out to look for help from national government,” said Mayor Shabalala.

He went on to say they followed all relevant channels and eventually their plea was heard. “But you must know that you are not the only ward in the district that is faced with water challenges; there are many other areas that are affected,” he explained. Mayor Shabalala also said there are plans in the pipeline to expand the Fitty Park Water Works in order to supply water to other areas as well.

In the meantime, they had to devise ways to make sure that this area had a water supply. They requested Sydwalt Construction to drill a production borehole in the area. The production borehole is connected to five standpipes spreading through the ward for ease of access.
