Column: We need to reset our reasoning

Hopeful student delegates are acting in line with expectations to avert a crisis; if not, it will take this nation forever to have trustworthy, wise, and upright leaders.

What would it take to improve the South African educational system, I wonder? Having a suitable and forward-thinking curriculum has been difficult for years. Students start to struggle with reading, writing, and math skills in junior high. Regrettably, the government agencies in charge of ensuring that we receive high-quality education appear to be sleeping while on the job and enjoying every minute of it.

Something ought to have been done, but it appears that the current system will continue to harm many people, especially those in the periphery, and will not be changed. It currently seems impossible that justice will ever be done. It seems unlikely that equality will rule the day any time soon.

Concerning higher education institutions of learning and the existing financial system in existence, it is also quite worrying what is happening with the Department of Higher Education and Training. Seeing how individuals in charge of the agency are playing with the nation’s youth and future is frustrating. The situation surrounding NSFAS is sorely lacking in character and strangely demonstrates how pitiful some people in powerful situations can be. Nobody actually cares, so students are left to experience frustration and depression. Hopeful student delegates are acting in line with expectations to avert a crisis; if not, it will take this nation forever to have trustworthy, wise, and upright leaders.

Students should unite in the face of this regrettable and savage occurrence, which was brought on by NSFAS and the Department of Higher Education and Training, rather than create unnecessary divide through cheap politics.
The issues at hand won’t be resolved by burning and destroying the infrastructure. We should use the same infrastructure that is being destroyed to raise the bar and expand the scope of our critical thinking. What do you hope to gain by destroying lecture halls? What do you expect in return if you insult and fight with your fellow “brother” while experiencing the same unfairness that greedy leaders have fostered? Birds will continue to mock us and our ignorance since change and transformation won’t reveal themselves in this way.

When we work as a team, we can accomplish more than when we work separately. Giants that are caught asleep are useless.
All evil that is done by evil people in our presence continues to have corruption as its source. It’s unfortunate that nothing is being done to fix the problem. Even within our own cultures, we are aware of those who lack integrity and leadership skills, yet little is done to change this since we are too busy squabbling over scraps and scraps. Resetting our thinking is necessary.
