Relief as municipality finally fixes resident’s wall

Municipal workers left the wall in a broken state, leaving the property vulnerable to vandalism.

A family living on Barry Hertzog Park can finally breathe a sigh of relief after the municipality repaired their wall after months of calls and pleas.

The Newcastle Advertiser reported in March on the family’s frustration after municipal workers demolished their wall while repairing a sewer problem on an adjacent property.

Following a media inquiry, the municipality moved quickly, with the municipal manager visiting the family and municipal workers starting work on the wall.

However, work would stop again after that one visit, leaving the wall unfinished.

The family resumed their calls and emails to the municipality, and finally, after months of agony, the municipality completed the wall.
