Learners plant trees at Thulasizwe Primary School for Mandela Day

The session started with a lesson on awareness, and then DARD handed over a vegetable garden for the learners, as well as trees to plant.

As part of Mandela Day celebrations, government departments that included KZN Wildlife; the Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (DARD); KZN Economic Development, Tourism & Environmental Affairs; and Nquthu Municipality organised a huge environmental awareness event at Thulasizwe Primary School.
The session started with a lesson on awareness, and then DARD handed over a vegetable garden for the learners, as well as trees to plant.
“I am glad to see government stakeholders united at our school for this good cause.
“Our learners have experienced planting trees and vegetables for the first time.
“Mandela Day is such an inspirational phenomenon,” said Cllr Zandile Ndlovu.
In order to enjoy living in a green environment, Musa Mkhize from KZN Wildlife advised the learners to embrace the tradition of planting trees in their environment, not just at school but at their homes as well.
