Huge golf day brings all players together in ‘unity’

There was a great sense of togetherness on the day, which was very fitting because the word 'Sisonke' refers to 'unity'.

A huge field of 90 players descended on Dundee Country Club on Sunday to take part in the Sisonke Golf Day. Sisonke golf days are held throughout the region and beyond to help golf clubs boost their coffers, and to give up-and-coming golfers a chance to compete and in that way develop the sport across all communities.
There was a great sense of togetherness on the day, which was very fitting because the word ‘Sisonke’ refers to ‘unity’.
There was also great humour and a chance for the youngsters to learn from the seasoned veterans.
Importantly, it also proved to be a boost for Dundee Golf Club, which (like all clubs) is facing challenges in the current economic climate.
L Nywao, who travelled all the way from Piet Retief, took overall first place.
There were also prizes for juniors, ladies and for players in all divisions, thanks to the generosity of the many sponsors who came out to support the day.
“This day was a massive success and the club would like to thank Doc Kunene, Jo, Neo and their team for all the arrangements. It’s members like you that will make this club succeed,” said golf club captain Joff Davies.
The next Sisonke day will be hosted by Pongola on August 27.
