Water shutdown planned for tonight

uThukela say that load-shedding has negatively affected the efficiency of Spioenkop's raw water pumps

uThukela District Municipality has issued a statement informing the community of Alfred Duma Local Municipality that they will turn off the water supply tonight.

The planned water shutdown will be from 17:00 today (August 1) until 05:00 tomorrow morning (August 2).

As was the reason for the last water shutdown on July 27, uThukela say that load-shedding from Eskom has negatively affected the efficiency of the raw water pumps at Spioenkop Dam. Bulk water levels have consequently dropped, resulting in water supply interruptions.

The municipality has planned to reduce pumping from the Ladysmith purification plant and interrupt water supply to the golf course area reservoir. This will help to build up water levels for an efficient supply.

The following areas will be negatively affected by water interruptions: Van Riebeeck Park, golf course area, Observation Hill, Observation Park, Egerton area, Steadville and Hyde Park.
