Remains of medical student, Snegugu Myeni to arrive in South Africa

The body of deceased Utrecht student Snegugu Myeni is expected to arrive today.

Myeni died suddenly on July 10 at an airport in the Philippines, where she was in her final year of medical studies.
She was about to board an airplane that would have flown her home for a visit.

Her story made national headlines when her family in Utrecht asked for help in bringing her body back home for burial.

Since then, the KZN Premier’s Office, in collaboration with the Department of International Relations and the Emadlangeni Municipality, has offered to help with repatriation efforts and funeral expenses.

According to a national publication, KZN Premier Nomsa Dube-Ncube will accompany the family as they receive the remains. After that, a service will be held at the OR Tambo International Airport chapel before transporting her to Utrecht for the burial service on Saturday (July 29).

In a media statement, the Emadlangeni municipality asked the community to remember the family in their prayers and to attend the funeral service, which will be held at the Bergsig sports ground in Utrecht.
