House break-ins on the rise

Community members are urged to enforce more security measures

Local police have reported that there have been numerous house break-ins in town and Bhekuzulu Newstands. The criminals seem to target houses in Mark Street and Pioneer Park, all the way to Spoor Street. Recently, 16 house break-in cases have been reported at the police station. These cases include the theft of people’s belongings.
Community members are urged to enforce more security measures such as locking gates, doors and windows when leaving your house unattended.
Vryheid police say they have strengthened patrols in the areas of Bhekuzulu, Sasko, CBD, Lakeside and other neighbouring areas. The SAPS also pleads with people to get involved in neighbourhood watch groups and report any suspicious activities in their area.
“Cable theft is another major problem that police are facing. We ask people to report these continuous wrongdoings to the station. The Community Policing Forum is also working alongside the SAPS in combating crimes in communities,” say Vryheid SAPS.
