Save up to three lives by donating blood

Be a 'hero' and donate today

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is in need of blood, as stocks are low. Therefore, they are requesting people to come to the Ladysmith Blood Donor Clinic at San Marco Centre and donate.

“We are in dire need of blood to boost provincial stocks,” say the SANBS. A single donation of one pint can save three lives. The clinic at San Marco Centre is open from Monday to Sunday, which leaves residents plenty of time to give selflessly.

To be eligible to donate blood, you must be between 16 and 75 years old, weigh a minimum of 50kg, be in good health, have eaten a meal at most four hours earlier, and should lead a safe sexual lifestyle.

The hours of the local blood bank are: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 to 17:00; Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 18:00; and Saturday and Sunday from 09:00 until 14:00.
