Mayor uses new road handover to highlight progress made by municipality

The mayor, who was joined by Amajuba District Speaker Cllr Mthembu and Newcastle Municipality Speaker of Council Cllr Thengi Zulu, unveiled the road to the delight of Madadeni residents who braved the cold to attend the event.

Newcastle Municipality mayor Cllr Xolani Dube unveiled a newly constructed road to much fanfare in Ward 22, Madadeni last week Thursday (June 22).

“By opening this new road in Ward 22, we hope to make travelling to work and school easier for commuters, “stated Dube.

The Mayor used the occasion to provide an update on the work of the IFP-led coalition municipality in the face of previously stated financial challenges.

“We went back to the drawing board as a coalition government to discuss ways to propel our communities forward in light of the financial constraints we continue to face. We took steps to bring together all of the experts we have at our disposal as the council to track the progress of all of the projects the municipality has undertaken. “

He went on to explain how the municipality has attempted to address community issues, saying,

“We have heard the complaints of people on social media complaining of potholes in our roads, resulting in us as the municipality embarking on inspection of these roads. We are making plans on how to fix them.”

The mayor urged Newcastle residents not to lose faith in the municipality, saying, “These are some of our plans, even though we still face challenges.” We ask the public to be patient with us because we will soon turn this corner and see the light.”
