IFP retains Ward 29 after by-election

This means there is no change of power at Alfred Duma Municipality

The IFP has won the hotly-contested by-election in Ward 29, uMhlumayo area.

The by-election was held yesterday (June 28) and the results have been released by the IEC.

The ward was previously represented by the IFP and became vacant as a result of former councillor Phasika Nsele’s membership being terminated by the party.

Nsele was contesting the elections as an independent candidate.

Winning this by-election means that the IFP has managed to keep the number of seats (33) they had before. With the help of the DA’s three seats and the ABC’s one seat, that makes up the 37 seats needed to govern Alfred Duma Local Municipality.
