Football team ‘gives back’ to schoolchildren

''The whole purpose is to hold tournaments in different areas and then give back to the needy people of that community.''

The AbaQulusi Legends soccer team recently took the initiative to give back to the community.
This is a team from Coronation, led by Bongani ‘Xavi’ Ngwenya.

A soccer tournament was held in Coronation earlier this month and different teams took part.
Xavi explained that, “Every time we host a tournament and it becomes a success, we normally celebrate with the teams by buying meat and drinks for the players. However, this time, we decided to spend the money doing something positive for the community where the tournament was held. We then agreed on donating school shoes to five primary schools around Hlobane and Coronation.”

He visited the schools with some of the teams and stakeholders for the handover. “The shoes exceeded the number of learners, so the remaining shoes were given to individuals around the community. The whole purpose is to hold tournaments in different areas and then give back to the needy people of that community. We do not intend to focus only on learners, but all the people in those communities. We will provide food items, clothing or anything that might be useful to them.”
