Umzinyathi District Municipality hires water tanker mechanics

In order to help the mechanics, the municipality provided them with a workshop and the necessary tools to enable them to properly fix the trucks.

Umzinyathi District Municipality (UDM) has employed three qualified water truck repair specialists to help reduce the burden of high expenditure associated with water truck repairs.
UDM has contracted licensed mechanics to complete the above-mentioned work.
In order to help the mechanics, the municipality provided them with a workshop and the necessary tools to enable them to properly fix the trucks.
Tools that have been damaged have also been replaced.

Mayor Petros Ngubane welcomed these individuals with wide open arms, providing them with the necessary equipment and granting their demands for crucial components.

“The community’s ability to receive clean water in a timely and reliable manner is of utmost importance, thus this avenue was chosen,” explained the mayor.
He added that UDM has greatly lowered the costs associated with repairing foreign trucks by employing an in-house technician.
“Internal repairs will hasten the process and safeguard us against extended periods of inactivity,” he said.
He also explained that having in-house mechanics will save the municipality money by not having to take the trucks elsewhere to be repaired.
In conclusion, Mayor Ngubane said ‘the waiting time for the trucks to be fixed will be shorter if we undertake the work ourselves’.
“There were instances when our trucks were not fixed for over a week while other vehicles took priority at repair shops and this hindered service delivery in areas that needed water,”| concluded Ngubane.
