Service delivery woes in Colenso

Exposed electricity cables are a cause for grave concern

Residents of Colenso’s Top Rank area (Ward 25) are complaining about service delivery issues in Zenzele Street.

They say that the street lights are always off and the transformer in the area is in need of attention. Complaints include that the current transformer is not secured or fenced, electricity cables are dangerously exposed, the distribution boards trip, and the plug circuits are not functional.

The community is concerned for their children’s safety, because they say that playing outside could result in electrocution and possibly even death. The area is dark at night with no street lights, so criminals could easily be on the prowl and ready to attack.

“It is important that council employs the right qualified people to do the job (of fixing the transformer) because, as we know, most accidents are caused when people do not take the necessary precautions or when there are no notices of precautions made visible for the public to see,” said Zenzele Street resident Khawulani Dlamini.
