‘Black widow’ jailed for life for masterminding plot to kill husband

A woman was sentenced to life in prison for orchestrating a sinister plot to have her husband killed by hitmen in a desperate attempt to claim a large insurance payout

Slindile Nkosi (38), an unemployed mother, devised a plan to murder her husband, Sthembiso Shabangu (45), an Osizweni prison warder, in order to cash in on his multiple life insurance policies.

According to Amajuba cluster detective Sargent Sibusiso Kunene, Nkosi meticulously sought the services of three hitmen.

The hitmen broke into Sthembiso Shabangu’s home on May 26, 2021, while he was relaxing with his three friends. Before fleeing, they fatally shot Shabangu and his best friend, Mlungisi Manana.

The plot started to unravel when Shabangu’s widow visited the Metropolitan Life Insurance offices to claim on the insurance policies. Nkosi revealed the nefarious plan to the agent, who later tipped off the deceased family member.

Nkosi was sentenced to life imprisonment on two counts of murder on May 30, 2023.
