‘Event of the year’ Mayfair is back

Residents showed up in numbers at the Cecil Emmett Ground, as they last had a taste of the Mayfair before the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country.

It was fun, games, and excitement for ‘Vryheiders’ over the past weekend, as the Mayfair took place on Friday and Saturday. These are the busiest days for the Vryheid Lions Club, which has been organising this event for many years.

Residents showed up in numbers at the Cecil Emmett Ground, as they last had a taste of the Mayfair before the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country. Children – along with their parents, aunts, uncles, grandmothers, and grandfathers – spent the day buying different items at the stalls.
The stalls offered everything from clothing to food, drinks, face painting for the little ones, and much more. It was a beautiful day weather-wise, with people joining queues at the entrance gate, as well as where the tokens were bought to enjoy the different rides and games.
It was smiles and shrieks of delight from the little ones as they played games like Elephant Trains and Dodgem Cars – while loud screams and laughter were coming from games like Miami, Trooper, Break Dance, Tilt-a wheel, Exclusive Style, and Extreme.

Officials from Public Safety and SAPS, as well as security guards, patrolled the event to ensure safety. Different medical services were also on hand.
The community made the most of the day, and you could see that they have been craving this kind of entertainment that uplifts the spirit of AbaQulusi residents and brings everyone together for a good cause.

Some community members commented that they were so happy the Mayfair took place, as they needed a break from all the negativity in town. They hope it will be bigger and better in the coming years.
