Municipality updates on power outage

The next update will be on Friday regarding the progress of the switch house

The primary switch house that is situated at 174 Newcastle Road which caught alight yesterday (May 7) resulted in the total darkness of all Suburbs and Town distributed by the Alfred Duma Local Municipality.

According to Alfred Duma Local Municipality the Fire Department worked tirelessly over the night extinguishing the flames at the substation and around 23:45 the flames to the switch house was full extinguished. During that time the Officials from the Electrical Engineering Services was able to restore electricity supply in the following areas;

Acaciavale, Aloe Park, Rose Park, Leonardsville, Marula, Steadville, Tsakane, Sumitomo, Lasher and Transvaal Press Nuts and bolts factory arears.

This morning (May 8) the Electrical Engineering Services was able to restore power to few business in Lyell Street parts of the Central town, Provincial Hospital Essen Hospital, Ladysmith Prison, Cannon Road, Lower Hospital Park, Klipbank Road and the Motels.

Currently the technicians are still on the ground working hard to resolve the issue as at this point the cause of the fire has not been identified. Areas that are still affected like, Egerton, Golf Course, Hospital Park, Van Rienbeek Park, Observation Hill, Umkhamba Gardens, Limit Hill, Model Kloof, Danskraal Industrial areas, Bloukrans Road areas, part of the Central Town and Illing Road areas are kindly requested to be calm as the team are on the ground working on restoring this power outage. They are also trying to restore electricity to more areas temporally giving priority to water treatment plants.

The Department of Electrical Engineering Services is expecting new medium voltage panels to arrive tomorrow(May 9) that will be installed at municipal second switch house situated in Newcastle Road.
