A fire broke out at the old sub-station on the N11 this afternoon (April 30).
Thick black smoke billowed high into the air, with many Ladysmith residents casting their eyes skyward and wondering what was burning.
Alfred Duma Local Municipality fire-fighters responded to the scene and were successful in extinguishing the flames.

The cause of the fire is unclear at this stage.
