DHS teams show their mettle as they travel to play in Ladysmith

The first team girls drew 1-1. Emily Joubert scored the first goal of the match in the second quarter, and Faith Mazibuko had a few good runs as she effortlessly dribbled through the whole Ladysmith team.

On Saturday, Dundee High School (DHS) teams travelled to Ladysmith High School (LHS) to compete in the annual winter sport league. Excitement ran high and the athletes couldn’t wait to get onto the field to showcase their teamwork and talents. Well done to the following teams…
Hockey:
The U/16 girls won 7-0.
Well done to the following goal scorers: Nonkululeko Ndlovu, Celiwe Zibula, Samukelo Khanyile, Xane Husselman, Asanda Hlongwane and Alwande Mthembu.
The first team girls drew 1-1. Emily Joubert scored the first goal of the match in the second quarter, and Faith Mazibuko had a few good runs as she effortlessly dribbled through the whole Ladysmith team! The Spartans, unfortunately, struggled to convert in the end and ran out of time with a 1-1 draw. Well done to Gaby Beukes for her excellent clears in the circle. The second team hockey boys won 3-0. The first half was energetic, with many successful switches in the game and an excellent deflection from the goalie’s pads into the goal box by Stuart Talanda.
Thubelihle Shoba had a superb game and scored a textbook back-stick goal into the top right corner of the goal box.
Gaining momentum, the team took advantage of their winning streak to convert a short corner, with Stuart Talanda scoring another goal with a straight poke to the box. Their ‘Man of the Match’ was Thubelihle Shoba for his excellent goal and dribbling skills, as well as composure in the game.
The first-team hockey boys won 4-0. This was a very energetic game, with many excellent passes by the boys to keep possession and gain momentum toward the goalposts. Well done to the following boys who scored goals against Ladysmith: Hein Muller (two goals), Cebo Mbatha and Joshua Estrice.
Rugby:
The U/14 boys lost 24-12, U/15 boys won 60-0, and U/16 team won 34-12. The second team won 31-7, while the first team were convincing 21-5 victors.
Chess:
The chess team also had a lot of good games, but unfortunately lost 4.5-5.5.
