Mayor helps resolve water challenges

The mayor urged the community to look after the infrastructure

uThukela District Mayor Inkosi NB Shabalala recently attended a meeting in the Umhumayo area that was called by non-profit organisation Siyayijika Lento Foundation.

It was brought to the attention of the mayor that the community does not have access to water supply. In addition, a school in the area has a borehole, but it is broken.

The community requested the municipality to come on board in terms of helping with servicing the broken pump. The school, together with the School Governing Body (SGB), is willing to let the community fetch water from the school once the borehole is up and running.

The Department of Education has approved the request sent by Principal Khoza, on condition that there is no disturbance to teaching / learning and no conflict between the school and the community it serves.

Mayor Shabalala said they will be bringing in workers to start the process of laying pipes, and the technical team will assess the pump to see what needs to be done to ‘bring it back to life’.
