Local singer releases new hit single
It's a ‘spiritual Afrikaans pop song’ that she co-wrote with Jolanda Becker
Local singing sensation Melanie Janse van Rensburg (now known by the stage name ‘Melanie J’) has just released her new single called ‘Twee Is Beter As Een’. She was inspired to write this song after finding the love of her life, who is now her husband, Donovan Flanagan.
The song is close to her heart, describing it as a ‘spiritual Afrikaans pop song’ that she co-wrote with Jolanda Becker. It’s about a relationship that, despite physical distance and challenges, grows into a meaningful romantic partnership, bound together in faith. She and Donovan have that bond she ‘reflects on’ in her new song.
Melanie J will be relocating to the UK, where she will continue with her music career. She is excited, as she is going to be ‘busking’ (singing in the streets for passersby). She wants to stay true to her roots and teach others in the UK about Afrikaans music. However, she’s looking forward to coming back to South Africa in the future to release more music. For now though, she’s jetting off to her new life.
