Fund-raising projects pay dividends at the dam

The team also has its sights set on a larger project to enhance the facilities at the dam

For most people, a weekend at Wagendrift Dam is all about fun times while relaxing with family or friends…

However, the Honorary Officers have a mission to preserve and maintain, and it was all about work during a recent ‘work party’ when the team got together for the first of their renovation projects.

“Work began in the female side of the ablution block, where the group began painting walls, ceilings and doors; cleaning drains; some basic repairs; and upgrading the lighting,” said the team.

Income for this project was sourced through fund-raising projects that the Honorary Officers embark on throughout the year.

“Fund-raising is our only form of income to do such projects. This time, we approached Macksons Hardware, who very kindly gave us a great deal of what we needed. Our next project will be the men’s ablution facility,” said the Wagendrift Honorary Officers.

The team also has its sights set on a larger project to enhance the facilities at the dam.

“The current water heating system needs mains power to activate the gas geysers. These are large units and our small UPS does not last at all. We need to upgrade our current unit to at least a 3KVA system. We would like to go bigger, as we would like the lights in the facility to also work during load[1]shedding,” they explained.
