Angus conquers stroke to represent Dundee at SA bowls tournament

Angus Miller has been selected to compete in the South African National Disabled Bowls Tournament.

Angus Miller, a long-time member of Dundee Bowling Club, has been selected to compete in the South African National Disabled Bowls Tournament in Pretoria from May 21 to 28.
Angus, who is hoping to excel at the tournament, says he has always been a keen sportsman and in his ‘younger days’ was a fearsome forward for Sentraal Rugby Club.
He also proved to be no slouch on the hockey field.
After retiring and going on pension, he joined Dundee Bowling Club and has participated in many competitions, making friends at bowling clubs throughout KZN and in other provinces.
Three years ago, weeks before the Covid-19 lockdown, Angus suffered a stroke that left one of his legs paralysed.
“It was a real shock – but with ongoing support from my family and many friends, especially those at Dundee Bowling Club – I managed to pull through by simply keeping up a positive attitude and a smile on my face,” he said.
After recovering, he began playing in a wheelchair, then a walker, and now with the aid of crutches.
Members of the community wish him luck and encourage anyone who wants to sponsor Angus to please send donations to Dundee Bowling Club A/C no. FNB no. 62050813312, with the reference ‘Angus Miller’.
He competed in Durban last year and did well in each of his divisions.
