All roads lead to potholes

The question has been asked by the community: How many will have to die before the department fixes these roads?

Residents are constantly complaining about the roads in and around Vryheid. The R33/R34 towards Dundee has very dangerous potholes across both lanes, where vehicles have to stop and allow oncoming traffic to pass. There are no warning signs, and vehicles and trucks hit these potholes regularly. The R33 towards Paulpietersburg is also covered in potholes and is getting worse due to the influx of trucks making use of this road and avoiding the N2 Pongola road. The N2 is known for trucks crashing into vehicles and houses, and the angry community closes this road unannounced. The R69 Hlobane road is in no better condition, and this road that leads to Louwsburg and Pongola poses a threat to people’s lives. The question has been asked by the community: How many will have to die before the department fixes these roads? The Vryheid Herald posed this question to the communications officer at the Provincial Department of Transport, but no response has been received. Hopefully the question will prompt the department to send out inspectors to these roads before more people lose their lives in fatal crashes.
